“Alpenhorns, lederhosen and kilts…”
On Monday 28th May 2012, KCB members joined forces with Burneside Brass Band and Diessen Band for a spectacular evening of musical entertainment at The Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge.
The evening was hosted by the Windermere-Diessen Twinning Association and involved a wide range of musical talent. The concert started with the massed bands playing Florentiner March. A varied programme followed, including a selection of classic Frank Sinatra tunes and Palladio from KCB, a Euphonium solo (Blaydon Races) and The Grenadiers military waltz from Burneside Brass and a processional march and trumpet feature from Diessen Band.
The second half began with an Alpenhorn feature by Diessen Band which was enjoyed by all. This was followed by a range of traditional Bavarian music with band members, who are a multi-talented bunch, playing a wide range of instruments and singing too!
The two Cumbrian bands continued with English Folk Song Suite, a cornet duet “Playmates” and the Caliph of Bagdad (Burneside) and a Stevie Wonder selection, Ashokan Farewell and Crown Imperial (KCB).
Rousing renditions of Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral, for which the three bands were joined by two local pipers, rounded off the concert.
Thanks go to all those involved in organising a very special evening, including pupils at the school who provided interval refreshments to raise funds for their planned production of Phantom of the Opera.
