2013 Kendal Christmas Lights “Switch-on”

town-hall-at-dusk1The 2013 Kendal ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ took place on Sunday 17 November.  The fun began  at Abbott Hall from 12.00noon  with a reduced entry fee to the gallery which proved a success with the visitors. The reindeers arrived at 1.00pm and proved very popular with everyone.  Kendal Concert Band and Queen Katherine School Samba Band provided the entertainment and helped the crowd to get in the festive mood.  Santa Clause and his Elf arrived just before 3.00pm which gave the children a chance to speak to him before the procession left at 3.30pm.  Lewis Friar from Sandgate School joined Santa Claus in the sleigh.  The procession was led by the QKS Samba Band and behind the sleigh was the Cancer Care santa dash entrants as well as the members of the public who had been at Abbott Hall. new-bannersThe procession made its way up to the Town Hall where the Mayor joined them and made their way up to the  Lakeland Radio outside broadcast stage.   Lakeland radio had entertained the crowds since 12.00 noon with live entertainment.  The Made In Cumbria markets stalls were in Marketplace and the Mayors Stall was located at the War Memorial selling festive treats and mulled wine(non-alcoholic). A fabulous hog roast was  located at the Elephant Yard Shopping Centre and the very popular ‘Sausage Stall’ was outside Thorntons.  The intial feedback was positive and the event a success.“The best family event since Christmas”
